After the difficult 2020 edition, where we adapted – like all the friendly meetings of the performing arts sector – to the regulations due to the critical health situation, we are back with all our strength. The Children’s and Youth Theatre Fair of the Balearic Islands returns in its usual format, the third weekend of October and although not itinerant, recovering the street shows, which will fill Vilafranca with good theatre, families and many, many eager to learn and enjoy an exhaustive selection of shows that has taken us almost a year of work.

FIET 2021 will take place from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 October. In this, the nineteenth edition, “JALEIU” by the Guillem Albà & La Marabunda Company will be the opening piece and we will close with “Quizás no hay final” by the Catalan company Circ Pistolet.

As is logical, the format we have recovered is adapted to the circumstances due to the Covid19 pandemic, still present in our house, which leaves us without the possibility of programming travelling shows although you can enjoy nine shows in various public spaces in Vilafranca, in the open air, with prior reservation of a seat and free of charge!

The FIET, returning to a certain normality, will welcome professionals, companies and programmers of the performing arts both from the Balearic Islands and Spain, as well as internationally. All attendees will be able to enjoy a unique offer specifically aimed at family audiences, although we hope, as always, that all groups and ages will be able to enjoy it. The theatrical offer, selected with criteria of quality and innovation, includes contemporary dance, object and documentary theatre, magic, musical installations, circus, trap and many other genres that will be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

In total, some forty shows will be performed by thirty-eight leading companies in the world of the performing arts. Eighteen of them from kilometre zero, from the Balearic Islands; eleven from Catalonia, four from the Basque Country, three from the Valencian Community, one from Murcia and one from Galicia.

In this edition we will discover new projects, giving them the opportunity to show their work in progress, such as the clown show “Único” by the Menorcan Melinsky Cía or “Ganbara doinuak (legado)” by the Basque company Markeliñe.

We will also have companies of recognised prestige outside the Balearic Islands such as Maduixa Teatre with “Migrare”, Festuc Teatre with “La lámpara maravillosa” and Campi quien pueda with “Camino a la escuela”. Of course, we will promote the works made by and in the Islands, such as those of the Mariantònia Oliver Company, the Tro Company of the world spinning top champion Guillermo Vizcaíno, the Movimientos Company, Noctámbulos, Hotel iocandi or Letra Encantada, among many others!

This year we are also bringing back the Jornadas Profesionales, aimed at providing a meeting space with three activities: the accompaniment workshop aimed at Balearic companies, with Soledad Gallardo, “Lanterns in the night”, a workshop promoted by COFAE (Coordinator of performing arts fairs in Spain) with the methodology of professional accompaniment applied to stage projects, with Roberto Ramos de León and, finally, we will have a workshop coordinated by the Professional Association of Theatre for all audiences (TTP), “Sound space in the performing arts” with Antoni Tolmos and Marc Espinosa. Registration for this conference is still open until 19 September on the FIET website, where you will find the complete programme and instructions.

Soon we will return to a FIET weekend, where Vilafranca will once again be a theatrical stage full of life, where streets and squares will breathe theatre in every corner.

We are waiting for you!
