The Es Mercadal Town Council has contacted us, Sa Xerxa de Teatre, to schedule two family theatre performances by the Festuc Teatre Company (Catalonia) in Fornells and Es Mercadal. These puppet shows in Catalan will be performed on Sunday, January 19th, as part of the Sant Antoni celebrations in the municipality.
On one hand, Carretó de contes will take place at 12 p.m. at the Teatre de Fornells. The show is recommended for children over 2 years old and has a duration of 40 minutes. As the company explains, “we have put all those stories flying around in our heads into a cart, and step by step, we will deliver them to you”. It’s a journey into the world of insects: beetles, wasps, spiders, dragonflies… and many other creatures that will help our protagonist find her way. It’s a story of overcoming obstacles, created by Festuc Teatre and placed within this “magical and fun” show for anyone who wants to hop on the cart and dive into the dreamland. A close-up production, with tactile, visual, and sound stimuli.
After that, it will be the turn of Adeu, Peter Pan at the Es Mercadal Sala Multifuncional at 5 p.m. This show is free, lasts 55 minutes, and is intended for children over 3 years old. The story presented this time by Festuc Teatre is about Maria, a girl with a vivid imagination who loves stories, tales, and adventures told by her grandfather, with whom she spends every afternoon playing Peter Pan. One night, the lost boys take Maria to Neverland… Pirates, Tinker Bell, Native Americans, and all the magical characters created by James Matthew Barrie will become part of her reality. It is a very tender story, highlighting a modern theme: the bond between children and their grandparents, as well as how parents handle these new family relationships. The company proclaims: never stop dreaming, only those who dream learn to fly! The Adeu, Peter Pan show received the 2019 FETEN Premi a millor espai escènic and the Premi al millor espectale juvenil of the Feria de Teatro Ciudad Rodrigo in 2018.
Therefore, we invite everyone to attend these two performances by the Festuc Teatre company with the little ones in the house. These two shows have been created with the conviction of extending quality theatre across our islands and, above all, making it accessible to the smaller towns. We want everyone to have access to theatre and for children to have the opportunity to engage with the performing arts. For this reason, we thank the Es Mercadal Town Council for having counted on us to carry out the production of the performances of Carretó de contes and Adeu, Peter Pan in their municipality.
The Town Council has organized a series of additional activities in Es Mercadal and Fornells to celebrate the feast of Sant Antoni. Therefore, those who want to spend more time outdoors will have the opportunity to enjoy an exhibition by local artist Diego Coll Petrus, a performance by the Batumba percussion group, a barbecue, a party, children’s games and board games, projections, book presentations, storytelling, and many more activities!
