From Thursday to last Sunday, we were able to enjoy the 35th edition of the Mostra Igualada. Three members of the Sa Xerxa de Teatre team –Àngela Jaume, Joana Maria Rosselló, and Aina Quintana– attended the fair of children’s and youth shows in the capital of Anoia. Along with our professionals, about 800 accredited professionals attended the Mostra, going to different spaces in the city to see works from more than 37 companies, specifically 26 Catalan, 8 from other parts of Spain, and 3 international ones (the French DynamO Théâtre and Les Maldroits, and Cas Public from Quebec).
Àngela, Joana Maria, and Aina arrived in Igualada on Wednesday to attend the dinner with international delegates and national professionals from the Mostra. There, they shared spaces with figures such as Antonio Navajas from Teatro Cánovas in Malaga, Angeles Marchirant from a+ Soluciones Culturales, Lola Lara from Teatralia in Madrid, or Maite Serrat from Anem al teatre in Barcelona.

The next day, they got up early to go see the first show of the fair and then headed to the lodge –the area for professionals– to be able to talk and meet other colleagues in the sector and introduce them to Sa Xerxa and the FIET. After lunch, they continued watching theatrical proposals until ending the day with Llumeneres, a co-production of the Festival Alcools (Sala Beckett), La Casa del Teatre Nu, and FiraTàrrega, which made them dance and, above all, have a good time.
On Friday, April 12th, Aina Quintana met early with Àngeles González (from Ucinquanta) to continue working on the FIET 2024, as well as in February, when they came to Vilafranca to start organizing the Professional Days of the Fair. In the late afternoon, Àngela, Joana Maria, and Aina went to see more shows, splitting up to attend as many performances as possible and have a complete overview of the children’s and youth theater circuit. The last play they saw was Cavallet de mar, the monologue by the Mallorcan Pau Coya performed by Marc Torres, which reflects on identity and gender.
The next day was very intense. In fact, on Saturday they separated again to continue going to shows, both street and indoor. They saw B.O.B.A.S., Matzali, The Monsters, Borderline, Verbena, Sí Sí Sí, Juguem?… The audience was moved by Bon veïnatge, a show that filled the Pius XII square in Igualada with music and, above all, love for culture.
To end the weekend, Sunday was also dedicated to seeing theatrical proposals: Esberlar (which has Mallorcan presence), Latas, Com els pingüins, IAIA. La teixidora de paraules …

Undoubtedly, one of the most special moments of the weekend was when they coincided with the winning family of the FIET 2023 raffle, as the prize consists of being able to attend the Mostra during the three days of the fair. In conclusion, the Mostra Igualada is one of the best theatrical events of the year and our professionals always return to Mallorca having discovered many new proposals from the world of arts and, above all, with very interesting ideas to apply to our theater fair, the FIET.
